Out with the old: Robert Pattinson shows off his new crew cut at the People's Choice Awards last night as he finally sheds his Edward Cullen image

He has played a mysterious, alluring vampire heartthrob for the past five years, a role that he has become best known for. But last night, Robert Pattinson showed that he has finally managed to say goodbye to Edward Cullen with a dramatic new hairstyle.
Pattison arrived at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles last night with a shaved head, a far cry from the floppy-haired flat-quiff look he has sported for the past few years.

Overwhelmed: Robert received a standing ovation as he collected the Favourite Drama Movie Award for his film Water For Elephants

In fact, the crew cut gave the 25-year-old a more mature look, although we're not sure what his huge fanbase will make of it.
As the video of him accepting the award was posted online, there was a mixed reaction to his new look, with one fan moaning: 'OMG, what happened to his beautiful beautiful hair?! You are insane.'

Thank you very much: Robert is delighted with the gong as actor Zachary Levi and Robert's Twilight co-star Ashley Greene look on

But another fan said she liked his new cut and wrote: 'He looks so weird but its like a good weird! Tt's like he's removed every piece of evidence from himself to show that he played Edward Cullen! Guess its just another 'new do' we're gonna have to get used to
And another added: 'So hot! .... now that the hair is gone his sexy eyes are even more attractive!'

It's not just for me: Robert said he was collecting the award on behalf of all the cast of the film

Reunited: Robert hugs Ashley, who played his on-screen vampire sister Alice

Pattinson - dubbed RPatz by his adorning legion - was at the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre last night, and arrived in jeans and a black shirt which set off his new do nicely.
He was there to accept the award for Favourite Drama Movie for his film Water For Elephants, based on the best-selling book by Sara Gruen, and also starring Reese Witherspoon.

Sibling love: Robert put his arm round co-star Ashley as they posed for pictures after he accepted his award

Meeting a legend: Robert looked delighted to be sitting next to Golden Girls star Betty White

He was presented with the gong by actor Zachary Levi and his Twilight saga co-star Ashley Greene, who plays his sister Alice Cullen in the movie series.
He looked overwhelmed upon receiving a standing ovation and loud screams as he made his way up to the stage to collect the award.

Tough guy: Robert flashed his best hard man pose as he clutched the award close to him

And he told the audience: 'Wow. Thank you very much. I don't know why they asked me to accept it because it's really a lot of other people as well.
